Layout of the Month - December 2021

The holiday season is so much fun but so hectic at the same time.  I really wanted to make holiday cards that could be done before the joy was gone or the needs of the kids came into play.  So, I decided that this month's Layout of the Month would focus on SIMPLE while also showing fellow card makers how to make the most of our DSP.

As I've mentioned in the past, I kick off the month with Mystery Monday and then share not only the supplies and instructions but also my samples and those of my fellow card makers that attend my virtual class.  Here is what you would need to play along with us on this layout.

Supplies:

Stamps:

  • Sentiment of your choice - needs to fit on a 2 x 3 layer

Cardstock: Can use one color for both or two coordinating colors

  • 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 scored at 4 1/4
  • 3 x 2

Designer Series Paper or Specialty Designer Paper: must be doublesided

  • 6 x 3

Tools and Accessories:

  • 8-12" of ribbon
  • 1 coordinating ink pad
  • Dimensionals
  • Adhesive
  • Scissors

Instructions:

  1. Lay the 6 x 3 piece of DSP on your card to see where you want it to go - add adhesive to the CARD and attach your DSP.
  2. Trim off the excess.
  3. Turn that DSP scrap over and apply to the card with adhesive - now your card should have two patterns showing.
  4. Stamp your sentiment on the 3 x 2 piece.
  5. Tie your ribbon in a bow and attach to your sentiment with adhesive.
  6. Add the sentiment to the card with dimensionals.

Here are the samples I created for this card. The original card features the Peaceful Places DSP which is no longer available for ordering.  It also features the Merriest Moments stamp set (which is available until 1/3/2021 and then again for the July-December 2022 catalog) and the black gingham ribbon (which will be available until the 2022 Annual Catalog launches).

Because the paper was unavailable, I also made a sample featuring the Gingerbread and Peppermint Suite. It uses the Gingerbread and Peppermint 6x6 DSP, Frosted Gingerbread Stamp Set, and the Real Red Sheer Ribbon (all available while supplies last or until 1/3/2021). The card base and ink are Cinnamon Cider.

Here are the other samples created by those that attended my virtual workshop tonight.  These workshops occur every first Monday of the month - I hope you can join us next month!  Please note that not everything shown below is from Stampin' Up or currently available for purchase.  Attendees are encouraged to use things from their own stash to do these projects on Mystery Mondays.

Peaceful Christmas is Around the Corner

Christmas Paper Pumpkin kits sell out really fast and this year was no exception.  Here are two additional cards that you can make with a few supplies you may have already bought.

To make these cards, you will need some of the Peaceful Pines DSP.  The backgrounds for these cards were made by cutting two of the big tree sheets of the paper.  First cut 5 1/4 of the trees off the bottom of the page.  Cut those into three 4 x 5 1/4 pieces.  Then cut 1 1/2 from the bottom of the sheet that has the tree tops in it. This leaves you with a 5 1/4 x 12 piece of snowflakes.  Cut into three 5 1/4 x 4 pieces.  Repeat this process with the other 12 x 12 sheet with the same patterns.

  1. Layer the Peaceful Pines DSP to the front of the white card using adhesive.
  2. To make the trees, lay the vellum tree outline from the kit over the 3 1/4 x 4 piece of white and your Shaded Spruce ink spot.  Using a dauber, ink up the end and apply to the tree area using small swirls or daubing up and down.  Try to not move the vellum so your trees don't go all crazy.
  3. Attach one 3 x 1/2 piece of Shaded Spruce to each side of your trees using adhesive and add the entire piece to the card with adhesive.
  4. Stamp your saying on the small label and apply to the center of the trees using dimensionals.

  1. Attach the tree DSP to the folded Shaded Spruce card base with adhesive.
  2. Punch out a 2" circle from the gray plaid DSP and attach to the card with adhesive.
  3. Create banner ends in a 5 x 1/2 strip of Shaded Spruce using your scissors or the Triple Banner Punch and attach to the card with adhesive.
  4. Stamp your sentiment on the large tag using Shaded Spruce ink and attach to the card with dimensionals.
  5. Add some embellishments if desired.
  6. Stamp the sentiment of your choice on the 4 x 5 1/4 piece of white and attach to the inside of the card with adhesive.
These two cards feature the stamp set and ink spot that were exclusive to the October 2021 Paper Pumpkin kit - Peaceful Christmas.  The rest of the supplies used are below.

  • Cardstock: Shaded Spruce, Basic White, and Peaceful Pines DSP
  • Ink: Shaded Spruce
  • Stamps: Peaceful Christmas - Paper Pumpkin stamp set
  • Tools & More: 2" Circle Punch (retired), Banners Pick a Punch, Cut & Emboss Machine, Hippo and Friends Dies, Dimensionals, Adhesive, Dauber

I hope you enjoyed these samples and that you all get a little chance to make something special this holiday season.

Have a good Thanksgiving,

Stacy

Layout of the Month - November 2021 - Card #4

This month's Paper Pumpkin kit, Gifts Galore, was a fun one to play with. Here is an alternative card featuring the November Layout of the Month.  You can find measurements and instructions at this post.

For this card, I cut up one of the treat holders and used the rectangle bottom session for the rectangle on this card.  The strip of striped paper is a scrap from a cut Christmas tree.

On the label, which is part of the kit, I intentionally stamped it in Poppy Parade and then moved it just slightly and stamped again.  It gives it a small echo that matches closely to the Flirty Flamingo in the paper strip.

The genial gems were colored in using a Dark Poppy Parade Blends marker.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock/Paper: Old Olive, Poppy Parade, Basic White
  • Ink: Poppy Parade
  • Stamp Set: Gifts Galore - November 2021 Paper Pumpkin
  • Tools & More: Dimensionals, Adhesive, Genial Gems, Dark Poppy Parade, Scissors

While you cannot get this kit anymore, you can sign up by December 10th to receive the next Paper Pumpkin kit and join in on our fun!

Paper Pumpkin Alternatives - November 2021

With the holidays comes entertaining, gift cards, and treats for family and friends.  The November Paper Pumpkin kit, Gifts Galore, helps meet those needs as only Paper Pumpkin can. In this kit, subscribers received enough pieces to make 9 double-sided treat holders with bags, three of each design. The images of presents, Christmas trees, and snowpeople will make you smile and start feeling the happiness of the holidays without the stress.

These tags were much bigger than I expected but they look really good when outlined in black.

You can even add some white chalk marker or Wink of Stella to the ornaments on the tree (or other embellishments from your stash) to make those trees look even more festive.

To make your holidays even less stressful, I have a few alternatives to share.  My subscribers receive access to a virtual Paper Pumpkin alternatives event where I show these types of projects and walk them through how to make them, along with tips and tricks I've learned.  They also get a subscriber sheet with step by step instructions for all of my alternatives.

Simple Tag

Silent Fidget Snowman

Projects inspired by Cazz Boylan's Onstage@Home presentation - panel card, lovenote, and tag

(Look at this window made out of the cello bag - how fun indeed!)

Layout of the Month - November 2021 - Card #2

The best thing about having a layout of the month is that it helps me easily come up with ideas for events and occasions happening during the month.  I'm a day late in posting but yesterday I hosted a service unit meeting for Girl Scouts leaders with a gratitude theme.  We brainstormed community service ideas and ways that girls can come up with ideas.  Talking and laughing with these leaders - all of which give a massive amount of their time to help build up confidence, character, and leadership in these girls - well, it was the best of times.

So it ended up really appropriate that I had this card as our team building project.  It also served as my expression of gratitude for their time spent with me too.  These products are no longer available for purchase but the idea is yours for free.

For instructions and measurements, please refer to this post.

Supplies:

  • Stamps: Beautiful World (retired)
  • Paper: Just Jade, Early Espresso, Very Vanilla, Brushed Metallic 12x12
  • Inks: Crumb Cake, Just Jade
  • Tools & More: 2" Circle Punch (retired), 2 1/4 Circle Punch (retired), Storybook Label Punch (retired),  World Map Dies (retired), Champagne Rhinestones, Dimensionals, and Adhesive

Layout of the Month - November 2021

Welcome to this month's layout.  I was inspired by the color changing happening around us and all the puddles that were reflecting around our house and the kids' school.  Plus, I had a Paper Pumpkin card from Batter Up that I loved and I tweaked the layout to work for this month's holiday-related creations.

I love November crafts.  I love all things tied to gratitude, which is something that every person is capable of offering to those around them.  As I mentioned yesterday to my son while he trick-or-treated, every time someone shows you kindness or gives you something, you have an opportunity to practice gratitude and say "thank you".  Plus, most gratitude doesn't come with Whoppers so practice while you are truly grateful.  Oh, the joys of being 7....

My goal for November is to show gratitude for my body, my heart, and my mind every day.  So I hope to be kind to those around me, volunteer as much as I can, spend time with my family and friends, and do the physical therapy needed to keep me strong and balanced.  I'll share more about this project tomorrow. Tonight is about the layout of the card and not the layout of my life!

We kicked things off tonight with Mystery Monday.  The theme was Gratitude and here is what you will need if you want to play along with your own supplies.

Supplies

Stamps:
A sentiment of your choice
Small to medium Image(s) you can stamp multiple times

3 x 1/2

Tools & Accessories:

Instructions

1. Attach your 5 ¼ x 4 piece of DSP or Specialty Paper to your card base with adhesive.
2. Stamp all over the 4 ½ x 1 ½ strip of cardstock & attach to the front of your card.
3. Attach the 2 x 3 ½ piece of cardstock to the card with adhesive.
4. Attach your small strip of DSP or specialty paper to the card with adhesive.
5. Stamp your sentiment & punch out or die cut out.
6. Attach to the card with dimensionals or adhesive.
7. Add your embellishments.

Here is the sample I based this month's layout on.  It features the Little Delights photopolymer stamp set (#156527, $16.00), the Brushed Metalic Adhesive-Backed Dots (#156506, $9.00), and the Brushed Metallic 12 x 12 Cardstock (#153524, $15.00).

Here are some of the other samples created tonight by the talented crew of demonstrators and customers that participate in my Mystery Monday.  As you can see, they all had a different idea of what to make as they completed their steps.  Products in these samples may not be offered in my online store as participants use their own stash to complete the challenge.

Terri's Card

Heidi's Card

Diane's Card

At the end of the night, I draw a name from those participating and that person gets a $5 off coupon for a future fee-based class.  Tonight's random winner was Diane!

Quick and Easy Halloween Treats

When you have a suite called Cutest Halloween, you know you are going to be able to make some cute Halloween treats.  Now, I'm busy building Disney villain costumes for our crew so I didn't want to take a long time to make treats.  But our neighborhood is all about safe trick or treating so I didn't want hands going in candy bowls all night!

While you can use the tips from this post to help you stamp and punch images from the Cute Halloween set, you can also use the punches on the DSP and use those on your treats.

To make these great holders, you will need these supplies and a big bag of Kit Kat treats.  :)  Others will work but my treats were sized for those!

Supplies:
  • Papers: Highland Heather, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Cute Halloween 6x6 DSP
  • Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Gray Granite, Pumpkin Pie
  • Stamps: Cutest Halloween
  • Tools & More: Halloween Punch, Tear and Tape, Adhesive, Black Stampin' Write Marker

To make these treats, cut cardstock to 8 1/2 x 2 and score at 4 and 4 1/2.  Put tear and tape on the top and the middle of one section.  This will be the back of the treat holder.

Turn it over and add a 2 x 1/2 and 2 x 1 piece of DSP.  Stamp Trick or Treat in Memento Black ink. Add a punched image that you either stamp or punch out of the DSP.  Add to the holder using adhesive.  It should look like this (only not folded up yet - stamp before you fill!!!!)

Peel off the tear tape on the inside and add your candy and fold the holder.

I hope you enjoyed this simple and easy Halloween holder and make something fun for your trick-or-treaters!
