Spooky Stripes

Several months ago when I giddily ordered all my holiday crafting supplies, I wasn't quite inspired yet for Halloween.  Still, I managed to make this one fun card for a swap that I haven't had a chance to share yet.  This card was inspired by wanting to use the Cutest Halloween suite products but not wanting to use the really colorful papers.  That's when I realized that every sheet had a black and white patterned side and the idea started coming together.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock/Designer Series Paper (DSP): Basic Black (8 1/2 x 5 1/2), Cutest Halloween DSP (7 pieces at 4 x 1/2, black DSP 3 x 1 1/2 for tag ), White (4 x 1/2, scrap for punched images, piece for inside of your choice)
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Gray Granite, Pumpkin Pie, Highland Heather
  • Stamp Set: Cutest Halloween
  • Tools & More: Halloween Punch, Black and White 1/4 Gingham Ribbon, Cut and Emboss Machine, Taylor Made Tags Dies, Cute Stars Adhesive Backed Sequins

Instructions:

  1. Layer the 7 patterned strips on the front of the card base and attach with adhesive.
  2. Stamp sentiment in Tuxedo Black and attach to the bottom with adhesive.
  3. Run the black DSP through the Cut and Emboss Machine to make a medium tag.  Insert the gingham ribbon and knot.  Trim the ends.  Attach to the card with dimensionals.
  4. Stamp the trio of images using the ink pads.  Punch out with the Halloween Punch.
  5. Layer images on the tag using adhesive.
  6. Add stars if desired.

Helpful Tip:

When using punches that correspond with images, it can be frustrating getting them to cut out straight.  If you don't have a stamparatus to help, try this approach.

Punch out the image from a scrap of paper.

Lay your images in the holes left behind, stamping images down.  Put your block on top of it.

Lift off the paper, ink the stamps and stamp in an area where you can easily reach with your punch.  Punch out the images.  You can also stamp the inside details before you complete this step or after.  Whatever your preference is.
