Happy Birthday during the Holidays

We have never been a family with Christmas birthdays but I remember one of my best friends having a birthday right around Christmas and how the number one rule was NOT to wrap her presents in Christmas paper. 

This card is modeled after one we did at Convention but I changed mine up to use some of the holiday papers that didn't scream holiday.  The trick to these types of cards is to stamp the bow first in the upper right corner of the card and then stamp and place the pieces downward and to the left. 

The big present is one of the papers in the Season of Cheer DSP.  The gold cord is also from the holiday mini as well and gives a great contrast to the Hello Honey pattern.  I also like that the color scheme in this card reads winter but doesn't read Christmas.  Mission accomplished!

The stamp set, Your Presents, works so great for holiday cards and tags but also works for other gifting occasions.  Saturday I'm posting a project for a bridal shower using it and the same Tin of Cards stamp set.  I like that it also has the patterned stamps in it so you can ink up the patterns and stamp on the present stamp to get the diagonal lines.  It's just a fun set to play with - maybe that's why it has a Joy stamp in it!

Celebrating Creativity - Day 9

Today I post my last Convention sample using the Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper (DSP) and the Tin of Cards Stamp set.  This final card allows you to add a splash of color to your DSP.  I chose to use Calypso Coral because I love the color of the twine and you can buy the marker separately from the Many Marvelous Markers set so I don't have to have an anxiety attack during a class that someone might ruin the marker!

This card came about because I miss-cut my DSP to 5 x 2 instead of 5 1/2 x 2 for the card posted earlier this week.  This paper is too beautiful to waste, so I played around with having a 1/4 border on the card pieces.  Start by coloring the roses on your DSP using your Calypso Coral marker. Layer your DSP on the folded Sahara Sand card using adhesive.  Add a 5 x 1 1/2 piece of Basic Black to the top.

An important part of this card is separating the twine.  Here are the steps for that and placing it on the card.

1 - Fray your twine into three pieces - it naturally will do this if you twist the top.

 

2 - Pull the three strands apart and run them over your fingernail to straighten out the curls.  Think of how you curl a ribbon at Christmas - same idea.

3 - Place 5" of Tear & Tape Adhesive between the DSP and Basic Black cardstock.  Burnish with a bone folder and pull up the tape.  If any of it is on the DSP or cardstock, just rub it down with your finger so it's only on the Sahara Sand.

4 - Place the strands on the card. I start by putting a bundle on the bottom and top and then placing the last one in the middle.  If needed, fluff it out with your fingers.

5 - Cut the ends using your Craft Scissors.

To finish out the card, stamp the saying on a scrap of Very Vanilla and punch out with the 2 1/2 Circle Punch.  Layer onto a 2 3/8 Circle Scallop in Sahara Sand. Layer on the card using dimensionals.

Celebrating Creativity - Day 8

Another day, another fun Convention swap using the Tin of Cards and the Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper.

This is another layout that I've used before but I really liked using it with these colors and papers.  This paper is beautiful and every piece lends itself to card making and memory keeping!

For this card, place a 3/4" strip of Sahara Sand in the center of the card.  Then mat a 3 x 4 piece of DSP on the Basic Black and layer on the card with adhesive.  Add a punched small banner on a dimensional and add a Sahara Sand candy dot on it.  Then stamp a saying from the Tin of Cards stamp set using Memento Tuxedo Black ink on a 2 x 2 1/4 piece of Very Vanilla.  Mat on Sahara Sand and layer on the card with dimensionals.

Celebrating Creativity - Day 7

Today I'm sharing another Convention swap featuring the Tin of Cards stamp set and Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper (DSP).  This layout is one of my favorites and one I've recycled through the years.

For this project, cut a 2 x 4 piece of DSP and layer on the card.  Stamp the sentiment to the bottom even with the bottom of the DSP and then stamp the doodle stamp under that.  I did this with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  Then tie a knot in a piece of Black Satin Ribbon and wrap around a 3 x 2 piece of DSP and attach to the card.  Punch out a heart from another DSP pattern and layer on a 1 3/4 circle using dimensionals.  Attach to the card using adhesive.

 

Then I stamped another sentiment from the stamp set to the inside and did a quick doodle of my own using a marker around the outside of the Very Vanilla.

Celebrating Creativity - Day 6

For the next few days, I'll be focusing my posts on other cards made using the Tin of Cards stamp set and our Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper.  These cards are all easy to make and have very versatile layouts and can all be made with the same set of core supplies.  While I loved making the Tin of Cards Project kit, I wanted to show other ideas with this great stamp set and these cards are all cards I'm swapping at Convention in just a few short weeks!

To make this card, you layer a 1 x 5 1/4 piece of Sahara Sand on the bottom of the Very Vanilla card.  Then attach a 2"x 5 1/4 piece of DSP and finish with the 1 x 5 1/4 piece of Basic Black.  Stamp the +++++ stamp in Memento Tuxedo Black just under the DSP.  Stamp the saying of your choice from the set on a scrap of Very Vanilla and punch out using the Circle Punch.  Use adhesive to layer on the Scallop and attach to the card using dimensionals. 

To get the black epoxy stickers, simply color the White Accents with a black Sharpie and let dry.  Then attach to the card.
