Quick and Easy Halloween Treats

When you have a suite called Cutest Halloween, you know you are going to be able to make some cute Halloween treats.  Now, I'm busy building Disney villain costumes for our crew so I didn't want to take a long time to make treats.  But our neighborhood is all about safe trick or treating so I didn't want hands going in candy bowls all night!

While you can use the tips from this post to help you stamp and punch images from the Cute Halloween set, you can also use the punches on the DSP and use those on your treats.

To make these great holders, you will need these supplies and a big bag of Kit Kat treats.  :)  Others will work but my treats were sized for those!

Supplies:
  • Papers: Highland Heather, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White, Cute Halloween 6x6 DSP
  • Inks: Memento Tuxedo Black, Gray Granite, Pumpkin Pie
  • Stamps: Cutest Halloween
  • Tools & More: Halloween Punch, Tear and Tape, Adhesive, Black Stampin' Write Marker

To make these treats, cut cardstock to 8 1/2 x 2 and score at 4 and 4 1/2.  Put tear and tape on the top and the middle of one section.  This will be the back of the treat holder.

Turn it over and add a 2 x 1/2 and 2 x 1 piece of DSP.  Stamp Trick or Treat in Memento Black ink. Add a punched image that you either stamp or punch out of the DSP.  Add to the holder using adhesive.  It should look like this (only not folded up yet - stamp before you fill!!!!)

Peel off the tear tape on the inside and add your candy and fold the holder.

I hope you enjoyed this simple and easy Halloween holder and make something fun for your trick-or-treaters!

Layout of the Month - October 2021 - Card #4

It's that time - my Paper Pumpkin alternative using the Layout of the Month.  You can click there to see all the dimensions.  I loved the Peaceful Christmas kit that we received in October.  You can order refills for this kit by clicking HERE as long as you are a current subscriber.

To start, I cut the large plaid rectangle from the kit to 3" and then cut it apart to make the two 3 x 2 pieces that I needed.

From there, I added a 3 1/4 x 4 1/2 piece of Whisper White to the front of the Shaded Spruce card base.  I roughed up the edges with my fingernail - a "go-to" tip when I realize my blade is dulling just a little too late!  I added those two pieces of green plaid to the white using adhesive.

Then I cut apart one of the vellum tree clusters into two parts.  I laid those on the card and then attached the red banner with adhesive to hold them in place.  You can add a folded glue dot under the trees but you might see it through the vellum still.  Then I stamped the image on the tag and added it to the card with dimensionals.  To complete the card, add two glitter gems that came with the kit.

I hope you have enjoyed all the different ways you can use this layout with your holiday and occasion card making.  Come back next Monday for a new layout!

Paper Pumpkin Alternatives - October 2021

Holiday kits are always so much fun and I appreciate having a low stress stamping experience, as I have mentioned here more than once.  Today I'm sharing my alternative projects made with the Peaceful Christmas October 2021 Paper Pumpkin kit.

This kit came with supplies for 10 cards, 5 each of 2 designs.  The kit came in a green box and included all the pieces for the cards, envelopes, instructions, a Shaded Spruce ink spot, and an exclusive holiday stamp set.  If I were a first time subscriber instead of an OG subscriber, I would also get a free block in this kit.  Finally, the kit coordinates with our Peaceful Place Suite.

While the card instructions provided in the kit created a great holiday card, I wanted to see what else I could come up with.  Below are my samples and they were really fun to make while also filling a holiday need I'll have.  While pictures are provided, subscribers with me will receive a Tip and Tricks document with all the dimensions and full instructions for each card (this is why they have a title by them).  Subscribers also receive an invite to my Alternatives Virtual Class where I show how to make these projects.  If you would like this perk, sign up below for next month's kit by the 10th of the month.

Spooky Stripes

Several months ago when I giddily ordered all my holiday crafting supplies, I wasn't quite inspired yet for Halloween.  Still, I managed to make this one fun card for a swap that I haven't had a chance to share yet.  This card was inspired by wanting to use the Cutest Halloween suite products but not wanting to use the really colorful papers.  That's when I realized that every sheet had a black and white patterned side and the idea started coming together.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock/Designer Series Paper (DSP): Basic Black (8 1/2 x 5 1/2), Cutest Halloween DSP (7 pieces at 4 x 1/2, black DSP 3 x 1 1/2 for tag ), White (4 x 1/2, scrap for punched images, piece for inside of your choice)
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Gray Granite, Pumpkin Pie, Highland Heather
  • Stamp Set: Cutest Halloween
  • Tools & More: Halloween Punch, Black and White 1/4 Gingham Ribbon, Cut and Emboss Machine, Taylor Made Tags Dies, Cute Stars Adhesive Backed Sequins

Instructions:

  1. Layer the 7 patterned strips on the front of the card base and attach with adhesive.
  2. Stamp sentiment in Tuxedo Black and attach to the bottom with adhesive.
  3. Run the black DSP through the Cut and Emboss Machine to make a medium tag.  Insert the gingham ribbon and knot.  Trim the ends.  Attach to the card with dimensionals.
  4. Stamp the trio of images using the ink pads.  Punch out with the Halloween Punch.
  5. Layer images on the tag using adhesive.
  6. Add stars if desired.

Helpful Tip:

When using punches that correspond with images, it can be frustrating getting them to cut out straight.  If you don't have a stamparatus to help, try this approach.

Punch out the image from a scrap of paper.

Lay your images in the holes left behind, stamping images down.  Put your block on top of it.

Lift off the paper, ink the stamps and stamp in an area where you can easily reach with your punch.  Punch out the images.  You can also stamp the inside details before you complete this step or after.  Whatever your preference is.

Smiling Skulls - Cutest Halloween Continues

Since I forgot to publish ALL of my posts last week, I'm back to share more details about the Halloween cards from my Layout of the Month post.

My tip with this card is that you can use the Gray Granite ink and stamp the solid images in this set as a "shadow" for the image that is up on dimensionals.  It gives a little extra dimension without having to be concerned that it's too thick to mail.  The skulls are not part of the Halloween Punch but are easy to cut out using the outline shapes.

Here are the supplies that I used on this card but you can check out this post for the measurements and instructions.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock/DSP: Basic White, Old Olive, Basic Black, Cute Halloween 6x6 DSP
  • Ink: Tuxedo Memento Black, Gray Granite
  • Stamp Set: Cutest Halloween
  • Tools: Scissors, Dimensionals, Cute Stars Adhesive Backed Sequins, Adhesive

Layout of the Month - October 2021 - Card #2

Well it doesn't help if I post the card and forget to publish it, now does it?

Cutest Halloween - A Family of Ghosts

One of my favorite things is being able to use Designer Series Paper images on my cards - especially when they are easy to cut out or punch out.  Today's Halloween card features my Layout of the Month and several cute and mischievous ghosts that represent my family perfectly.   You have the smiling trick or treater - always polite and cute and patient.  You have the candy guzzling ghost who is sure to say it's stomach hurts by the end of the night.  You have a gluttanous ghost that obviously enjoys all the great things in life.  And finally the ghost behind the scenes pulling the strings and getting people to do what needs to be done.  I'll let you guess which ghost is which.  HA!

Helpful tips from this card:

  • The ghost holding the candy bag punches out perfectly with the Halloween Punch.
  • The other ghosts that are partially hidden were cut from the outside of the DSP so that there was minimal waste again.  Layering them lets you hide the parts that are missing from the DSP.

Here are the supplies that I used on this card but you can check out this post for the measurements and instructions.

Supplies:

  • Cardstock/DSP: Basic White, Highland Heather, Cute Halloween 6x6 DSP
  • Ink: Memento Tuxedo Black
  • Stamp Set: Cutest Halloween
  • Tools: Cut & Emboss Machine, Stitched So Sweetly Dies, Halloween Punch, Scissors, Cute Stars Adhesive Backed Sequins, Dimensionals, Adhesive
