Sympathy Cards

Today's post is a simple share of some quick and easy sympathy cards I made this weekend.  From the loss of important people to the loss of important pets, I think it's important to send notes to folks to let them know you are thinking of them during this difficult time.  I realized that the image based papers in the Falling in Love DSP pack lend themselves well to this type of card.

Now my go-to sympathy set is still Always in my Thoughts, which retired several years ago.  You can remake these cards using any sympathy or thinking of you stamp though.

Supplies:
  • Cardstock/DSP: Sahara Sand, Very Vanilla, Falling in Love DSP (retired)
  • Ink: Sahara Sand
  • Stamp Set: Always in my Thoughts (retired)
  • Big Shot: Cutting Mats, Magnetic Platform, Stitched Shapes Framelits, Layering Circles Framelits
  • Accessories: Very Vanilla 1/4 Satin Ribbon (retiring), scissors, adhesive, dimensionals, tea lace doilies (retired)

April 2017 Paper Pumpkin Samples - A Sara Thing

This month's Paper Pumpkin kit was one of my favorite.  I love watercoloring with pencils and I love the embossed resist technique.  Putting them together is awesome and offered customers easy access to these types of projects.

These are the three projects that were designed for the kit with instructions.

Additional card ideas are below.  My customers will get step by step instructions on how to create these projects using their Paper Pumpkin kits.

Color the whole heart with Melon Mambo.  Then add the Rich Razzleberry pencil just on one side of each section.  Watercolor with a tiny bit of water to get the shading.

I couldn't get the heart to look like it transitioned from pink to purple like Sara did, so I just went with coloring the whole heart with the Daffodil Delight pencil and then shaded it with the Mambo and Pacific Point to make this heart.  I cut one of the white strips in half and added washi to the top.  Then I stamped it with Happy Birthday to and stamped "You" on the inside.

I wanted to see what I could do with the large piece of watercolor paper but I didn't want to work around the print in the corner.  So I turned it over and stamped several flowers in the Archival Black ink.  Any flowers would do but these are from the So In Love stamp set.  I colored the center yellow and the outer leaves pink.  Then I colored the middle with both pencils to make the peach color.  Remember that this doesn't have the embossed edge to hold in the water so you barely use any or use a blender pen.

I also did a few 3D.  One of them will be posted later when I print the photos for it but the other is a Gift Card Holder.  You fold your envelope in half and cut it in half.  Then you seal one of them and stamp just the Happy Birthday.  Then cut apart the half that is left and make the insert for your gift card.

Hope you like these ideas.  Check out below the perks of being a subscriber with me!

April Paper Pumpkin Subscriber Thank You

Now that all my thank you notes have gone out to subscribers, I can finally post the card that all my subscribers are receiving from me this month.

As part of my Paper Pumpkin team, my subscribers get a card in the mail that they can keep or reuse that features the stamp set and some of the elements of the kit when possible.  This card features the stamp set and washi tape.  They also get to preview the Eastern Palace DSP and Lemon Lime Twist ink which is available for pre-order in May to customers as part of a bundle!  That is normally a perk reserved to demonstrators so I'm excited to see this come up for customers too.  Read more about it below!

Back to the card, I used two 1 x 3 1/2 pieces of the Eastern Palace DSP and then used the washi tape from the Paper Pumpkin kit on it.  Because the washi tape can be waxy, I used Tear and Tape under the banner to adhere it to the card.  Speaking of the card itself, the base of the card is a Very Vanilla notecard, another new offering in the upcoming catalog!  I'm not as sad to see the Crumb Cake notecards go now that I know what is replacing them!

Supplies:
  • Cardstock/DSP: Very Vanilla, Eastern Palace DSP (new!)
  • Stamp Set: A Sara Thing
  • Ink: Dapper Denim and Lemon Lime Twist (new!)
  • Accessories: Very Vanilla notecard and envelope, Washi Tape from A Sara Thing kit, Dapper Denim 3/8 Ruched Ribbon, Dimensionals, Tear and Tape
I recorded a few videos to help with this month's Paper Pumpkin kit also.  This first one is a few tips aimed at new subscribers with limited experience with our products.

The second one is designed to help eliminate the halo that comes from using the splatter stamp.  I figured if I kept doing it, my customers were going to have the same problem!

If you have any questions at all about your own Paper Pumpkin kit, please leave me a comment or email me!

Spring into the Occasion - Beautiful You

Sorry for being MIA - my son has decided that my time is all his time so every time the laptop opens, he either wants to watch Story Bots on Netflix or color on it.

This weekend I'm teaching two classes.  One is a private Sip and Stamp class.  I love these because everyone has a good time no matter what the projects are.  That kind of energy that this group has is contagious.  I'm also teaching Saturday morning to some of my favorite customers and doing a step by step teaching camp to see how they respond to that style.

These two projects feature the Beautiful You stamp set and Falling in Love paper.  Now many of the items on these cards is already gone but the camp was prepped before that happened.  I will sure miss this paper and these embellishments and also the lace doilies.
This first cards is the fancy fold card.  It was inspired by this video from Jill Olsen.

Supplies:
  • Cardstock/DSP: Falling in Love 12 x 12 Sahara Sand Cardstock, Very Vanilla, Falling in Love DSP
  • Ink: Sahara Sand
  • Stamp Set: Beautiful You
  • Big Shot: Big Shot, Cutting Mats, Magnetic Platform, Stitched Shapes Framelits
  • Accessories: Lace Doilies, 2" Circle Punch, Falling in Love Embellishments, Glue Dots, Dimensionals, Tear and Tape, Adhesive

The second card utilizes our watercolor paper and blender pens to color the dancing figure.  I love the combo of the heart paper from the Falling in Love DSP pack since she looks so carefree and happy!

Supplies:
  • Cardstock/DSP: Very Vanilla, Blushing Bride, Falling in Love DSP
  • Ink: Archival Black Ink, Blushing Bride
  • Stamp Set: Beautiful You
  • Big Shot: Big Shot, Cutting Mats, Magnetic Platform, Stitched Shapes Framelits
  • Accessories: Very Vanilla Satin Ribbon, Blender Pen, Adhesive, Dimensionals, Scissors
Both of these cards would work for weddings, anniversaries, or any of life's moments that we celebrate!

Spring into the Occasions - More Camp Cards

Today I wanted to share a few of the other camp cards I'm teaching in April.  I already shared the two fancy fold cards a few days back.  These are the "traditional" cards that will accompany those fancy folds.  I wanted my crafting friends to see that there were complex and straightforward ideas for our stamp sets and papers.

For this first one, I was inspired by a brief view of Tami White.  She showed how you get the light background on the patterned balloons by stamping them off.  I took that one step further and stamped a solid Curry balloon first and then stamped it again.  Then I did the striped balloon second at full strength so it has two shades with one ink pad.  I also changed the final sample I'm teaching to use the largest square Stitched Shape Framelit for the Whisper White piece.

Supplies:
  • Cardstock/DSP: Whisper White, Party Animal DSP (retiring)
  • Ink: Crushed Curry
  • Stamp Set: Balloon Adventures (retiring)
  • Big Shot: None
  • Accessories: White Baker's Twine, Triple Banner Punch, Glue Dots, Dimensionals, Scissors, Adhesive
The second sample features the Tasty Treats DSP and Cool Treats stamp set.  Excited to see this stamp set and framelit are sticking around even though the bundle and the paper is retiring, along with all the embellishments.  Don't miss out on this one either!  For the washi tape, I took a 3/8 strip of Whisper White and put the washi tape on it.  Then I mounted that on the card so the tape would show up brightly against the white.  A cool little trick whenever you are working with the washi tapes.

Supplies:
  • Cardstock/DSP: Crumb Cake, Whisper White, Watermelon Wonder (retiring), Tasty Treats DSP (retiring)
  • Ink: Pear Pizzazz
  • Stamp Set: Cool Treats
  • Big Shot: Big Shot, Magnetic Platform, Cutting Mats, Frozen Treats Framelits, Stitched Shapes Framelits
  • Accessories: White Baker's Twine, Tasty Treats Washi Tape (retiring), Dimensionals, Scissors, Glue Dots, Adhesive

GOING, GOING, GONE

I'm pretty bummed that the Balloon Adventures set is being retired - it's so versatile.  You can see what supplies and stamp sets are being retired by visiting my online store!

Going, Going, Gone for 2017

The retired list is always one of the saddest times of the year.  It shows me all the great products we are saying goodbye too and also reminds me of the things I didn't use yet in my camps and for my cards.  When the retired list comes out, you have until May 22nd to be guaranteed the stamp sets on the list. After that they will stop producing them and they will retire on May 31st.  All tools and accessories are while supplies last until May 31st.

Now remember, there are some icons to pay attention to on the list.  ** means the bundle is retiring but not the stamp set or framelits.  There is an icon for product being reconfigured and also an icon that product is being modified.  Some items are also on sale so when you check out the list, those sale items will show a red price.  Some items are up to 50% off!

Below are my top 10 products I will miss as they retire.
  1. Watermelon Wonder & Mint Macaron everything - I never did figure out how to pronounce the second one correctly, but I will miss these two colors a lot.  I think Mint Macaron was a great accompaniment to so many other colors and Watermelon Wonder is such a vibrant color.  I'm glad I stocked up on cardstock and refills for these since I will still use them in my personal crafting.
  2. Project Life - While I never did figure out how to do a scrapbook class with this product, I did really enjoy the classes I took from other demonstrators like Ronda Wade using this product.  I will still use all my stockpiled cards and pocket pages to scrapbook my pre-kid life but know that the replacement product for this line will be something fun to play with!
  3. Tin of Cards Project Kit - This product is on sale for 30% off and you get the tin and supplies to make 16 cards.  Now the stamp set is sold separately but you can use the old Tin of Cards stamp set or you can use something you have on hand to complete this great kit.
  4. Kraft Cardstock - I'm glad I just ordered this for my scrapbooks.  The 12 x 12 paper is great for cards and bags and envelopes.
  5. Crumb Cake Notecards and Envelopes - My Paper Pumpkin subscribers know I use these religiously with my kits so I'll be sad to see this option discontinued.
  6. Fruit Stand Designer Series Paper - This watercolored fruit paper just makes me smile.  I loved creating my projects with it and wish it was sticking around for another year. Especiall since I had a class prepped for it that I never taught!
  7. Large Polka Dot Embossing Folder - I used this one on everything.  I think they will have a good replacement since they always excel on the embossing folders but I really enjoyed this one with all my birthday projects!
  8. Fringe Scissors - Callie will be sad to know we can't replace the scissors if Michael breaks them. These scissors were great for adding grass and details to cards.
  9. Bitty Butterfly and Elegant Butterfly Punches - I loved using these with the kids since the Big Shot dies are sometimes hard for little arms and hands.  Vellum butterflies will be missed by me!
  10. And finally, the Gorgeous Grunge stamp set.  I will miss this as much as my Watermelon Wonder.  This stamp set added a special splash to every project and I see a lot of white space to ponder in my future.

What are you the saddest to see go?
