Spooky Home Decor

There is nothing I enjoy more with my crafting time then doing photo and memory projects.  Halloween has always been one of my favorites because no one complains about having their picture taken!  Today's project was the cornerstone of my Halloween class this week and I wanted to share the photos and the instructions so you can use them to make your own special holder for your Halloween photos.

The base of the book is a Shadow Box frame by Tim Holtz that you can find online or at most crafting stores.  Everything else on the project is Stampin' Up! and can be purchased from my Online store using the link below!

A few notes - I recommend measuring your books before you make these cuts.  Some books are slightly different sizes so all measurements were based on mine.  Also, make sure you put adhesive on your paper to avoid Tear and Tape from peeking out the edges.  Also make sure your words are right side up before you adhere the DSP - you'd be surprised how often that can happen!

Step 1: Decorating the Cover
  • Attach the two pieces of black polka dot paper to the front and back of your shadow box using T&T on all the edges and in the middle.
  • Attach the strip of circles to the spine using T&T.
  • Attach the orange square to the lower left corner of the cover using T&T.
  • Stamp your Happy Owloween using the Pumpkin Pie marker on the stitched square.  Attach to the cover using T&T so that about 1/4 is on the orange DSP.
  • Attach the moon to the box using T&T. Cut out the hat and put it on the owl using 1 1/2 dimensionals.  Add a rhinestone.

Step 2: Inside Left
  • Cover the page with the Orange Spooky Words paper using T&T.
  • Add the striped starburst to the lower right using T&T.
  • Add the striped strip at the bottom using T&T so that it overlaps the bottom third of the starburst.
  • Stamp the 3/4 Very Vanilla strip with the black lines using Memento Black and attach to the project with T&T.
  • Stamp the hat on the 8 1/2 x 2 3/4 strip of Very Vanilla and cut out leaving a slight edge.  Stamp the buckle orange and attach to the project using dimensionals.
  • Add a small rhinestone to the web.

Step 3: Completing the Mini Book Insert

  • Fold a 9 3/4 x 5 1/4 piece of Pumpkin Pie accordion style on the score lines (3 1/4 & 6 1/2).
  • Mount the 5 x 3 polka dot piece to the cover using dimensionals.
  • Stamp a black cat on the 8 1/2 x 2 3/4 piece of Very Vanilla and punch out using the cat punch.  Attach to the polka dot using T&T.
  • Layer the 2nd cat on top of it using T&T.
  • Stamp Happy Halloween on the vanilla banner and attach to the cats using T&T.
  • Add the small strip of DSP using T&T or adhesive.
  • Add strips to the side or top/bottom of the book as shown or decorate with your leftover DSP once you add photos!
Step 4: Decorating the Inserts
  • Add the pieces of DSP to the boxes using T&T.
  • Cut out pumpkins or other elements to decorate the boxes once you have determined what photos to add to your project.

The best Paper Pumpkin kits of the year come during the holidays, in my opinion!  This year, Stampin' Up! is trying something new and giving us TWO months of holiday kits and they will coordinate.  So if you want the first kit, you need to subscribe by October 10th.  These kits will help you get your card and gift making started off right!

Paper Pumpkin is creativity in a box.  It costs $19.95 plus tax and ships to your mailbox once a month.  It contains everything you need for your own creative escape.  Besides the instructions and pieces for the cards or project, it also contains ink and photopolymer stamps and usually the adhesive you need as well.  My subscribers will also get a project sheet with tips and additional ideas and instructions that they can make with the supplies in the kits and sometimes some supplemental supplies.  Plus I try to send one of the alternative ideas out to everyone in the mail so you get two fun surprises in the mail each month!  Sign up by the 10th of the month to get that month's kit!

There are two ways to sign up.

Subscribers can also have access to all my past project sheets!
