Twist and Pop and Birthdays

Birthday cards are a special gift for birthdays.  Inside you write something heart felt and let a person know that you were thinking of them on their day.  I try to get birthday cards out to all those that fill my life and heart but sometimes the best intentions get washed away with distractions and obligations (especially those fall birthdays when we are all trying to get used to the back to school routines!)

Anyhow, one of the most extraordinary women in my life was born 80 years ago today.  My mother-in-law is a woman of stories, of love, of support, and of laughter.  She had to wait a long time to get her grandbabies but she never pressured me to have them or has ever asked more of me than I could give.  She is creative and loving and always makes time for her family.  I'm extremely lucky that this woman is in my life!

For her birthday, I thought she needed something special in the way of a card so I went out on a limb and found this tutorial for a Twist and Pop fold.  This woman does a great job demonstrating how to do the card and all the dimensions and scorelines so I'll let you watch the video for all that jazz!

For my card, I used the Painted Autumn stamp set (which is truly a must have) and the Painted Autumn DSP.  I chose the sunflower images because they are a very happy flower that stands bold and bright and makes you smile whether you want to or not.  Plus, it's a beautiful watercolor looking image that you get by using the same color of ink on two different stamps - so it's easy!  To finish it off, I also added the Number of Years stamp set which I only seem to remember that I have when a milestone birthday comes up but has the best stamp my collection ("the number of years the world has been a better place because you're in it").

I chose this type of card because I wanted to put her family into it - because really that is her biggest legacy and one I'm most grateful for.  If she wasn't born, not only would I miss her companionship, but I wouldn't have my husband, my children, my life.

Happy Birthday Sylva - may this 80th year bring you more cuddles, laughter, and playdoh in your carpet!

The best Paper Pumpkin kits of the year come during the holidays, in my opinion!  This year, Stampin' Up! is trying something new and giving us TWO months of holiday kits in October and November and they will coordinate.  If you didn't order by October 10th, you won't be able to get the first kit at your door but you can still subscribe by November 10th to get the second one.  These kits will help you get your card and gift making started off right!

Paper Pumpkin is creativity in a box.  It costs $19.95 plus tax and ships to your mailbox once a month.  It contains everything you need for your own creative escape.  Besides the instructions and pieces for the cards or project, it also contains ink and photopolymer stamps and usually the adhesive you need as well.  My subscribers will also get a project sheet with tips and additional ideas and instructions that they can make with the supplies in the kits and sometimes some supplemental supplies.  Plus I try to send one of the alternative ideas out to everyone in the mail so you get two fun surprises in the mail each month!  Sign up by the 10th of the month to get that month's kit!

There are two ways to sign up.

Subscribers can also have access to all my past project sheets!
